Anti Wrinkle Treatment FAQs

  • What Is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum Toxin is a naturally occurring protein derived from the Bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. A purified form of this protein can be used cosmetically to smooth out and soften dynamic lines, restoring a more youthful, less stressed expression to your face.

  • Is Botox Safe?

Botox injections have been safely and effectively used by trained medical practitioners for over 4 decades. It is the number one cosmetic procedure and non surgical approach in the U.K. and is used by tens of thousands of clients every year. As long as it is administered by a medically trained professional, the risks are extremely minimal.

  • What Are The Benefits?

By relaxing the muscles that cause frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet:

    • The skin appears smoother.
    • Facial lines diminish dramatically in just a few days.
    • The creation of more wrinkles is prevented, as the skin is not being constantly creased.
    • Normal activities can be resumed immediately.
  • What Are The Limitations Of Botox?

Botox is best suited for treating dynamic facial lines i.e. those caused by facial muscular activity. It will not improve wrinkles and lines that are due to sun-damage and aging. Dermal fillers are best suited for these lines. Often a combination of Botox and dermal fillers is used to achieve the optimum effect. Botox is a temporary treatment, lasting from three to six months. However, with repeated treatments the effects may last longer.

  • Who Is Suitable For Botox?

Botox is a cosmetic procedure, therefore it must be fully discussed if you are suitable for treatment with your practitioner. Facial lines and wrinkles can affect not only your appearance but also your self esteem. By smoothing out the lines Botox can help you restore your confidence by giving you a more youthful, less stressed expression. Both men and women can benefit from the results of this treatment.

  • Who Is Not Suitable For Botox?
    • Pregnant or breastfeeding
    • Neuromuscular disorder (e.g. Myasthenia Gravis)
    • Allergic to any of the ingredients
    • Injection site is infected
  • Are There Any Side Effects?

Botox has been used for over 40 years to treat facial wrinkles and its safety and efficacy has been shown in many clinical trials. There have been no long-term side effects reported from the use of Botox. Temporary adverse side effects may arise from the treatment. Occasionally a small bruise may occur at the injection site which can be covered with make-up. In rare circumstances patients may experience heaviness or drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid which may last for a few weeks. However, prior to your treatment the risk of this occurring will be carefully assessed and the treatment adjusted accordingly. A full list of contraindications are cautions will be discussed at the assessment.

  • How long does the procedure take?

Treatment time can range from 15 to 30 minutes and you will start to see the effects within 48-72 hours, with maximum effect taking 7-10 days. No Anaesthetic is required. You can go back to work immediately.

  • Is there any discomfort with Botox?

Our clinicians are skilled at administering precision injections as painlessly as possible. To minimise discomfort a very fine needle and only a small amount of liquid is used. You may experience some sensitivity for no more than 1 hour after treatment.

  • Will I need time off work after my Botox treatment?

You can take on all of your usual daily activities immediately after your treatment, with some very small modifications. People will not notice that you have had Botox treatment. However, slight temporary bruising or redness is possible. You can eat, drink and wear makeup after treatment, however facials and sunbeds are not advised for at least 7 days after treatment.

  • How often do will I need treatment?

To maintain your new youthful look you may need 'touch-up' treatments twice a year for Anti wrinkle treatment. Touch-up treatments with dermal fillers are also usually needed twice yearly, as over time your body absorbs these natural fillers. Therefore, if you decide to stop treatment your skin will gradually return to its original shape. Our experienced clinicians will develop a tailor-made treatment plan that is right for you.
